The past forty years in China have seen a significant amount of social, political and cultural change, and we are now living in what has come to be described as the ‘Chinese century’. What role does art and Civilization: The Way We Live Now explores photographers’ representations of life in cities and presents a journey through the shared aspects of living in the urban environment.
Are these photographs an accurate reflection of how we live today? What does this tell us about life in cities in an increasingly globalised world, and about photography as a medium for documentation?
