Tough Luck Exhibition by Katie Eraser and Emma Lipscombe,

Nobody said collaborations were easy, but teaming up with someone who lives over 3400 kilometres away presents unique challenges. Tough Luck is a joint effort from Melbourne-based artist Katie Eraser and Perth-based artist Emma Lipscombe, and brings together their distinct but complementary styles. Their upcoming exhibition features a range of paintings by each artist, and also a series of limited run textiles which the pair designed together. The exhibition is a great example of the way which social media platforms like Instagram can bring together likeminded artists and help foster creative relationships and friendships. Katie and Emma have overcome physical distance to create a truly collaborative and unique exhibition.

Derek Swalwell

In anticipation of his upcoming exhibition at Modern Times, we were delighted to have the chance to catch up with Derek Swalwell to discuss his style of photography, creative process and the ideas behind his current series Outdistance.

Outdistance is a gorgeous showcase of some of Italy’s most iconic brutalist architecture as told through Derek’s distinctive, crisp and rich style. Derek takes a loving and considered look at the works of renowned architects Carlo Scarpa, Aldo Rossi and Carlo Aymonino, while exploring how the structures sit within and are affected by their surroundings. We absolutely love this series, you can get lost in the detail of each image and we would highly recommend that you check it out.

Hannah’s current exhibition Cerberus is an exploration of her environment and landscape in her iconic, rich and evocative style.

Mini Living - INVERT

MINI LIVING - INVERT has officially commenced. The 14 models are currently on display in a
glasshouse on the site of the design brief in Melbourne’s CBD.

The architects have embraced, challenged and explored the MINI LIVING - INVERT brief, which
was to create a home for a family of four on a six-by-ten-metre site. For example, panovscott’s
House of Houses design provides a home not only for a family, but constructs defined ecosystems that support specific plant and animal life.

Kate Ballis

This July, acclaimed Melbourne-based photographer Kate Ballis will unveil a breathtaking body of work titled Glace Noir at Darlinghurst’s Black Eye Gallery, signalling her first Sydney showcase. Shot using the classic Hollywood ‘day for night’ technique, the austerely elegant works depict the Perito Moreno glacier in Argentina from varying angles, unearthing a series of ambiguous landscapes that play on light, tone, texture and scale. The photographs capture a serene stillness in time and space while simultaneously revealing a glacial underworld heaving with life force.

The dark, inky tones juxtaposed with puddles of celestial blues exude an almost intergalactic aesthetic. Invoking a sense of ambiguity as to the time and place of each photo, the artist emphasises the notion of day as night and night as day with interchangeable light that outlines mystery and intrigue in each depiction.
