Kate Stokes from Coco Flip Design Studio

Ahead of the Melbourne Design Week starting on March 14, we met with Kate Stokes of Coco Flip Design Studio to hear about Honey, her new collaboration with Bendigo Pottery, timber craftsman Charles Standford and glass artist Amanda Dziedzic. Honey is a collection of lighting designs including table lamp, pendant and wall sconce which feature slip cast ceramic stoneware or turned American white oak paird with hand-blown glass.

Eric Landon from Tortus Copenhagen

You may recognise Eric Landon from his mesmerising pottery throwing videos on Instagram and the unique and beautiful pieces coming out of his Tortus studio in Copenhagen. We were lucky to catch up with Eric in the beautiful Tkawei Studio near Torquay, where he had just finished a ceramics masterclass. We had a quick chat and learnt a little more about his journey, his craft and the role of social media.

Cone 11 Ceramics and Porcelume

We had a great day at the Mercator building at Abbotsford Convent, the home of Cone 11 Ceramics and Porcelume.
It was a lovely sunny day at the workshop, when we visited Ilona Topolcsanyi from Cone 11 finishing some tableware commissioned for a restaurant. We also met Colin Hopkins, the maker behind Porcelume, as he was working on a medium size shade using the art of hand‐throwing porcelain, a skill that he has mastered through the years.

We had a chat with both of them about their work and their passion for ceramics.

Valerie Restarick // North Carlton ceramics

Valerie Restarick is a Melbourne-based ceramicist. She trained as a painter at the National Gallery School (including as a student of the legendary John Brack), and later turned her hand to pottery which has become a lifelong passion. She founded her Carlton North studio 10 years ago where she continues to produce a wide range of work.
