Pine Ave

Designed with unprecedented consideration and deliberation, the collection of eight, three-storey townhomes are stylised to be an instinctual extension of Elwood’s relaxed modern living.
The welcoming sense of intimacy is also seen in the built form with a significant recess allowing light to pour into each home. Drawing inspiration from the distinctive circular forms seen in the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 30s, Cera Stribley Architects (CS-A) looked to emphasise each home’s facade, curving the white brickwork.

Bicycle Thieves

Light, fresh, timeless. Bicycle Thieves café on High Street Northcote designed by Pierce Widera is a celebration of modern Australian minimalist design. The floor to ceiling windows and polished concrete floor ensure that the whole space is bathed in natural light. We also love the stunning custom lighting fixture which runs the full length of the main counter and the tiled detailing of the counter itself. It’s the perfect spot for your next Sunday brunch!

Maap Store

Maap Store in North Melbourne is not your standard cycling apparel store. When you enter you are greeted by a friendly barista and a refreshing lack of pushy sales staff. The high-end cycling gear is carefully curated and displayed around the space. The high ceilings, white walls and natural light provide a calm and inviting environment to browse the collections. If you love cycling and great design this one’s a must see!

Cheek

Vegetarians beware! Cheek restaurant in Swanston Street is a self-described ‘non-traditional meatery’ and has a very carnivorous menu. When you go upstairs from busy Swanston Street you are transported to a striking minimalist environment and your eye is immediately drawn down the length of the space guided by the stunning neon light and central concrete bench, both of which run the full length of the restaurant. Nothing is hidden in this bold design by Pierce Widera, and every element has been pared-back and presented in its natural beauty.

ISH

We love the rich texture and carefully considered details of ISH, a modern Indian restaurant which opened in Fitzroy in October 2018. Architect Annu Bains has done a wonderful job bringing together the warmth of India and contrasting it with the industrial feel of the Gertrude Street location. Exposed brick and industrial-inspired metalwork are juxtaposed with natural leather and soft furnishings which creates an inviting but exciting setting to eat their delicious food.

Spanish Mission House

I’m very excited to share this project as the first entry in our new ‘Five Minutes In’ series. Designed by Peter Kennon and styled by yours truly, the Spanish Mission House in Prahran is a residential renovation completed in late 2018. This gorgeous home brings together the architectural style of Spanish colonial and modern Australian interiors, blending both seamlessly with the existing footprint of the original dwelling. Highlights include the original details, ample natural light and calming monochromatic colour scheme. It provides the perfect backdrop for the owner’s artistic works, which are displayed prominently throughout. It was a pleasure to work on this great project and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
